Aktor multitalenta sekaligus sutradara Dennis Hopper yang telah malang melintang di dunia perfilman Amerika ini lahir di Dodge City, Kansas, 17 Mei 1936. Hopper yang disebut-sebut sebagai ini meninggal pada umur 74 tahun karena kanker prostat.

KARIR

Hopper yang juga seorang seniman ini pertama kali tampil di layar kaca tahun '50an. Penampilannya mulai dikenal lewat peran kecil yang dimainkannya bersama aktor James Dean di REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (1955) dan GIANT (1956). Selama 10 tahun berikutnya Hopper mulai sering tampil di serial TV dan bermain sebagai peran pendukung di beberapa film layar lebar. Karirnya mulai menanjak setelah ia membintangi dan menyutradarai film EASY RIDER (1969). Berkat aktingnya yang memikat serta ide ceritanya yang sensasional, Hopper, Peter Fonda dan penulis naskah Terry Southern mendapat nominasi Academy Award dalam kategori Best Original Screenplay. Tahun 1971, Hopper meluncurkan film THE LAST MOVIE yang diharapkan dapat mengulangi kesuksesan yang sama dengan EASY RIDER. Namun film tersebut justru menuai kritik dan jatuh di pasaran, akibat hal tersebut, kegagalan perkawinannya dengan Hayward, serta kecanduannya pada minuman keras dan obat-obatan, karir Hopper sempat menurun.
Menjelang akhir hayatnya, Hopper bermain dalam lima episode terakhir season 1 serial 24 yang ditayangkan di Fox TV, dan sempat membintangi serial TV E-RING yang ditayangkan di NBC.
